Games = Amazing Experience = Joke
I have been a Jazz fan for over 20 years and a local of Utah. I have attended countless events and basketball games at the Energy Solutions Arena/Delta Center.
Last night, my initial impression was quite surprising as we arrived at the Arena just 20 minutes before the tip-off and encountered the longest lines I have ever seen for entry. It reminded me of the security measures taken during the first NBA games post 9/11 with full-body scanners. It was evident that Icon For Hire was managing the situation, not the usual ESA Staff.
Can someone explain why, during the lengthy 20-minute halftime, Icon For Hire and CBS couldn't showcase the other game on the jumbotron? If halftime must be that long with no entertainment, why not allow the audience to watch the other game for a brief period?
The officiating during the Kansas St Xavier game was astonishingly poor. Despite having no particular preference for either team, the game's exciting start and close nature were marred by terrible officiating. The supposed top NCAA officiating crew displayed a lack of consistency and control over the physical aspects of play. Obvious fouls were ignored while insignificant hand checks were penalized.
The most disappointing moment of the night was attributed to the individual operating the jumbotron, whether an ESA or NCAA employee. The decision to display "Kansas St vs Butler Saturday 2:30" on the screen with 5 minutes remaining in regulation drew boos from the majority of the crowd. It was a dismal display.
Fortunately, the players' performance and determination managed to overshadow the NCAA's anticipated incompetence.
